Mayor Pro Tem letter

We try to keep a regularly-updated letter from the mayor on our City website, and, as acting mayor, I was asked to write a "Mayor Pro Tem Letter" to the citizens of Chico.

You can check it out here:

Some photos from Austin...

Here are a few photos I took yesterday and today while visiting our beautiful Capitol Building in Austin.

Headed home

The Wise County delegation listened to interesting remarks from Sen. Estes and Rep.
King during breakfast. We then walked to the Capitol to be recognized in the chambers of the Senate and the House. I have already gone back to my hotel room to get packed and checked out by noon, and I'll be spending the next four hours heading north on 35!

In Austin

Well, I'm back in the hotel room after a great evening of visiting and sharing ideas with other Wise County elected officials and state reps from different areas. It was a valuable and productive time, and I am excited about the potential of our area. It is imperative that we remain visible to those who represent us at the state level so that we can ensure that we are not overlooked or ignored.

In the morning, we are having breakfast with Senator Craig Estes and Representative Phil King, and I am interested to hear their remarks. After that, we are moving over to the beautiful Capitol Building for some events there.

I'll then be heading back to Chico for the city council meeting at six!

Legislative Days in Austin

I will be representing the City of Chico at Legislative Days in Austin this Monday and Tuesday. This is a great chance for elected officials from Wise County to visit one-one-one with our state senators and representatives about the issues that affect us here at home.

I'll be posting photos and updates while I am in our state's great capital city, so keep an eye on this blog for an inside look!

Special Meeting Tuesday

There will be a special meeting of the Chico City Council this Tuesday, February 10, at 6:00 p.m. Feel free to come out and watch your city government in action!

Park Road upgrades

If you haven't driven across the railroad crossing at Park Road lately, I encourage you to go check it out. The road has been realigned, creating a much safer and attractive intersection, and the new, smooth railroad crossing is a huge improvement. There are also flashing bars at the crossing, another great safety feature.

Rules

Okay, folks, this blog will be a good opportunity for me to communicate directly with my fellow residents about what the City of Chico has going on, but to keep this clean and fair, there are going to be a few rules.

First of all, I will be moderating every single comment that gets posted. What that means is that before anyone else sees a comment, I get the opportunity to approve or reject it.

Why would I reject a comment? Well, if it's slanderous, obscene, inflammatory, inappropriate, etc., you can pretty much bet that it will be rejected. This is not a place for you to tear down or insult other people or organizations. If you have complaints about something, feel free to e-mail me at jdclark.tx@gmail.com. Don't just anonymously post a negative comment.

Another rule...keep your comments relevant. This blog, like I previously stated, is focused on Chico, and as mayor pro tem, I feel it is a good opportunity for me to spread news about our city. This is not the place to discuss what is going on in other parts of the county; if you are looking for a Wise County blog, there is a great one over at http://www.skattershooting.blogspot.com/.

As you can see, there aren't a lot of rules, but I will be sticking closely to the ones I mentioned. The main thing is to keep this blog clean. I will not tolerate any character attacks nor will I publish anything that is not a verifiable fact. That means this is not the place to start or spread any rumors.

If you are wanting to tear down members of the community or spread gossip, then this obviously isn't the blog for you. However, if you would like to come check in every once in a while with what your local city government has been up to, come by anytime.

Also, if your community organization has an event or fundraiser coming up, e-mail it to me, and I'll review it, verify the info, and publish it on here.
